Michigan Trip – Day 7 – Bardstown, KY

September 9, 2024 – Travel day to Bardstown, Kentucky. About 200 miles from Cincinnati. We are staying at a B&B called Jailers Inn. It is downtown on the square where the jail used to stand. They converted the jail cells into bedrooms. Everything is based in the early 1900’s. We came from a hotel that was very modern to a room that had everything antique.

We walked downtown and hit several of the shops. Everything is related to bourbon. They call Bardstown the Bourbon Capital. Evidently they have several breweries here. We found an antique mall that we spent some time before eating supper at a steak place. Food was great, but we both left some on our plates. We were full as a tick, as Grammy would have said. Breakfast is served at 9am. Hope we can get up for it.

Our room and entranceway.

Our breakfast… eggs, french toast, muffins, orange juice. Delicious!

The jail, 600 lb cell doors, 30-inch walls. Built in late 1797 and housed prisoners until 1987. The back jail (stone wall) was built in 1897 and the front original jail (where the rooms are now located) was used as the jailer’s residence. There are stories of ghosts that haunt the facility because many were hung for their deeds in the back courtyard. The jail building was bought at auction and made into a B&B in 1995.
