Alaska Trip Day 2 – Portage Glacier Tour

Before we check in with Holland America Cruiseline, we had a day to travel around the Anchorage area. We had an excursion reserved in Portage, Alaska to ride on a boat to the Portage Glacier, an 1.5 hour ride. The excursion didn’t start until 3pm, so we decided to drive around the area and view the scenic mountains.

Here are some of the scenic views we saw.

Before we loaded the boat to go to the Portage Glacier, we toured a local zoo-like area called the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Area. It was a large area containing multiple fenced-off spots where animals in the area lived. It was fun seeing all them. Here are some photos…

There was a pretty purple-like flower everywhere. I believe it is the state flower. Here are some photos we took while we in the area.

Next, we traveled to the boat dock near Portage to go see the Portage Glacier. Here are some of the photos of the trip.

After returning to Anchorage, we stopped to eat supper at a little Mexican restaurant downtown, then we checked into the Holland America Cruise Line hotel, The Westmark in downtown Anchorage. After checking in and dropping off our luggage, we returned the rental car to the airport and took the Holland America bus back to the hotel. Tomorrow, we load the tour bus to go to the Denali National Park.
